John Marvin Scott is a music and sound scholar, educator, and multi-instrumentalist improvisor currently residing on the unceded and ancestral territory of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh speaking peoples, the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
Originally from Mihkwâpisimosos (Red Deer) on Treaty 6 Territory, John is now working alongside musicians across Western Canada, teaching and performing musical styles from around the globe. He is actively pursuing a Master of Arts in Ethnomusicology at the University of British Columbia, under the direction of Dr. Nathan Hesselink and Dr. Michael Tenzer. John's academic research currently focuses on freely improvised music on the Canadian west coast.
