Education and Tutoring

John has been working in music education for over 10 years, teaching a wide variety of popular music styles of a variety of instruments. He is trained in ethnomusicology and guitar performance (European classical and jazz). He also has experience with global popular music, West African, Korean and Chinese musical traditions, Indian classical music, and Balinese Gamelan.

Student Centered Pedagogy

John specializes in music appreciation and musicianship, as the foundational goal of John's practice is to create lifelong musicians. His ethnomusicology background guides his pedagogy with the integration of cultural and historical contexts for the music he is teaching. He is known for customizing curriculum for students of all ages and abilities—including neurodiverse students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
